salute

This weekend was a good one. A nice mother's day, not so severe weather and good times. I visited a friend in Cleveland and was treated to The Boulevard of 500 flags. It was amazing, and I was so in awe of everything it had to offer, I actually choked back tears walking through it. When we first pulled in, just the thought of there being 500 flags flying above was amazing enough..this is just what you see driving into the parking lot.

When we got out of the car, I could see the plaques that were attached to the poles with the names and branches of service of veterans. Very nice, we walk to the gazebo and I notice the row of flags one from every branch of the military. When we walk to the left, I see a fire in a "dish" atop a tall metal pole. It was lit when the olympic torch went through cleveland. It burns constantly as a reminder of those soldiers we've lost.

Further to the left was a circle which enclosed a lamp post light some marble from the lobby and a beam from the World Trade Center, granite from the pentagon, and turf from the field in PA. I was very emotional, looking at what had been collected representing not only the areas, but the victims and the survivors and the families and the friends and the emotions. Whew.

I finally hung a flag on my house this weekend. It was a good weekend.
